A developer has submitted plans to build 31 homes on farmland in Drayton.

Origin3 have applied to Vale of White Horse District Council to develop the land which forms part of Little Smith Farm in the south-western side of the village near Abingdon.

The intended site would be located south of High Street and accessed through Halls Close.

It would feature a mix of detached, semi-detached homes, and terraced houses, of which seven are designated as ‘affordable’.

Through the centre of the development would run a ‘village street’ and towards the edges of the site would be a play area, a sequence of ponds, and wildflower meadow planting.

The developer originally intended to build 40 homes, but this was scaled back after constraints were identified during a pre-application consultation.

The revised plans now feature a higher number of detached houses within larger plots.

The development is also set further back from the west boundary than originally planned and is significantly reduced along the east boundary.

The developer contends the new plan “better responds to existing village character.”

New residents would access the site through the current road in Halls Close which would be extended to serve the development.

Several trees would be removed at this access point and replaced with native trees and a wildflower meadow grassland border.
