The trial of a man accused of stealing his landlord’s furnishings won’t now happen until the winter.

James de Jager, 44, had been due to stand trial at Oxford Crown Court this week accused of a single count of theft of fixture by a tenant.

He is said to have taken ‘soft furnishings’ and ‘multiple items of furniture’ from the Oxford flat when he left it in 2019.

On Monday, prosecutor Andrew Jordan asked for the trial to be adjourned for legal reasons. Recorder Stuart Trimmer KC agreed that it could be, refixing the case for October.

The defendant, formerly of Bennett Hill Close, Royal Wootton Bassett, was granted conditional bail to return for the trial on October 6. The case is expected to last for two to three days.
