It’s easy to miss Gloucester Green off George Street but busy markets are now held there four days a week, from Wednesday to Saturday, after markets returned to the square about 40 years ago.

At the beginning of the 1980s, the Oxpens Market closed to make way for the expansion of the Oxford College of Further Education and market traders returned to Gloucester Green.

Shoppers looked for bargains at the last market in Oxpens in July, 1982.

Gloucester Green outdoor street market, run by the city council and LSD Promotions, is now open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Food stalls selling dishes from around the globe are popular and you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables, flowers and plants, household goods, cheeses, pet food, frames, books, records, fabrics, DVDs, mobile phone accessories, haberdashery, bags, hats, watches and watch batteries, clothing, cakes, sweets, and more.
