Oxford Mail readers have chosen their favourite buildings in and around Oxford.

The city is home to a number of world-famous buildings that people travel thousands of miles to visit.

We asked you on Facebook to mention which is your favourite and there were lots of responses.

Here are the FIVE buildings that got the most votes:

Radcliffe Camera

The Radcliffe Camera was by a significant margin the favourite building in Oxford among our readers that responded.

The building is known colloquially as the ‘Rad Cam’ and is a working library belonging to the University of Oxford.

It was built between 1737 and 1749 and is positioned in the heart of Oxford.

The Radcliffe Camera is completely separate from other buildings which makes is distinctive circular shape stand out.

Oxford University Museum of Natural History

This building displays many natural history exhibits and it also contains a lecture theatre for Oxford University’s chemistry, zoo and mathematics departments.

It was built in 1850, in the neo-Gothic style and was a site of controversy in evolution debates in the 19th century.

The building is a lively museum that welcomes over 750,000 visitors a year.

It is adjoined to the neighbouring Pitt Rivers Museum that can be accessed via the museum's main entrance. 

Turf Tavern

Turf Tavern is a historic pub located in the second of Oxford which dates back to 1381.

The pub is popular among university students and some of the famous faces that have drunk there include Tony Blair, Stephen Hawking and Margaret Thatcher.

The Turf Tavern is also well known for the claim that Bill Clinton allegedly smoked but didn’t inhale marijuana in the pub.

Oxford Mini Plant

Situated in Cowley, the plant is a BMW car assembly where Mini cars are produced.

It is possible to book a group visit at the plant.

In 2016, the Oxford Mini plant produced a total of 201,207 Minis.

Warneford Hospital

Warneford Hospital was opened in July 1826 as the Oxford Lunatic Asylum but was renamed in 1843.

It is located in Headington and specialises in providing mental health services.

Warneford Hospital will be opening a new specialist child psychiatric ward this year.
