A pub has offered free breakfasts to mums who have been left having to occupy children due to the teachers strike.

The Dolphin at Wallingford offered a special breakfast menu free to children under 12 between the hours of 9am and 10.30am today.

Landlady Emma Cox posted: "I’m very fortunate because my partner, Annie’s dad, is right here to look after her otherwise I’d be pulling my hair out looking for child care, or for something to do at short notice as five-year-olds don’t enjoy watching Mummy do the housework or the general jobs we try to do when the children are at school."

She added: "Times are tough so I’d be having to dig deep right now to take Annie out for the day.

"As I was thinking about this I thought lots of people will be feeling the same."

She suggested families drop in "before you head to the park, or to feed the ducks on our beautiful Thames".

"It’s the little things in life after all."

The post was warmly welcomed by mums scrambling for something to do.

One said: "That is a very kind gesture" and another "How amazing and kind!"
