An Oxford restaurant has been handed a one-out-of-five food hygiene rating.

Burger King at 24 Cornmarket Street was given the score after assessment on December 15, the Food Standards Agency's website shows.

A one-star review on Trip Advisor of a visit in December 2022 is headlined 'Rudest staff ever'.

The poster complains she and her husband and granddaughter were 'totally ignored by staff as they joked with each other for over 10 minutes!"

She said they would have left if her granddaughter did not have her heart set on staying.

"However it just got worse when another member of staff then came down the stairs swearing with the other staff all arguing. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY, STAY AWAY… A full detailed complaint has been logged."

Another one-star review on Trip Advisor in November 2022 reads: "Not only did we not get what we ordered, but the service was so slow, the food was almost cold before we received it.

"The bins were full, the tables and floors dirty and the toilets appalling. The toilet doors did not shut, never mind lock, there was no toilet paper, and they were not clean.

"The staff were not interested when I tried to tell them my concerns. I would definitely recommend you go elsewhere."

A one rating means that major improvements are necessary.

A business will receive a 1 rating if they score between 45 and 50 points. For example, if there are a number of breaches to food hygiene and a lack of training among staff.

It means that of Oxford's 413 restaurants, cafes and canteens with ratings, 348 (84%) have ratings of five and just one has a zero rating.
