A SECONDARY school in Didcot has been graded as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted for a second time in a row.

Didcot Girls’ School, including the Didcot Sixth Form, was inspected by Ofsted in November.

The school was last inspected in 2015 when it was graded Outstanding.

The school was then exempt from routine inspection due to its outstanding status and this only changed in 2020 when the exemption was removed for all outstanding schools.

The education watchdog described the Manor Cres school as a ‘vibrant and happy place to work and learn’.

In the report, it said: “The school is highly ambitious for every pupil. Leaders value academic success and strong personal growth equally.

“They are committed to nurturing and inspiring interests across the board. They want the girls to have as many choices as possible when they leave. Pupils therefore study a wide range of subjects.”

It added: “Pupils receive high-quality care and support, and pupils feel safe in school. They know that their voices are heard.”

Georgina Littler, headteacher of the school, said: ‘We are delighted with this report as it reflects the incredible hard work of staff, governors, trustees and students at Didcot Girls' School.

“We are particularly pleased that the report pays tribute to the exceptional strength of community in our school and our core values of inclusion, respect and high expectations.”

Ruth Elliot, chair of governors of Didcot Girls’ School, said: ‘As chair of governors, I am absolutely delighted that OFSTED has recognised that Didcot Girls’ School remains an outstanding school which is successfully achieving its vision of empowering its students to become resilient and to fulfil their potential as future leaders.

“The report is a credit to our wonderful staff and students and, as governors, we are delighted to celebrate this well-deserved success with them.”

Rachael Warwick, CEO of Ridgeway Education Trust and former head of the school, added: “I am extremely proud of the teamwork, commitment and expertise of our staff and governors that makes Didcot Girls’ School and Didcot Sixth Form such an aspirational and inspiring learning community for our young people.

“This is a fantastic and well-deserved outcome, especially in the context of Ofsted’s more challenging framework.”

Marcus Gover, chair of Ridgeway Education Trust Board, added: “This report is a real testament to the dedication of the Headteacher, staff, governors and students of Didcot Girls’ School.
