Former Love Island contestant Sharon Gaffka has had her campaign against spiking supported by her local MP in Parliament.

Conservative MP for Didcot and Wantage David Johnston told the House of Commons: "I've been supporting my constituent Sharon Gaffka's campaign on spiking. She was spiked twice and she has over 1500 testimonies of people aged 14 to 64 who have had the same experience."

Mr Johnstone asked for an update on discussions with the Home Office on the punishments and prosecution of spiking "so that we can stamp this crime out".

Ms Gaffka, 26, from Oxford, has shared her horror story of being spiked during a daytime lunch with her friends.

And charity Stamp Out Spiking said "it would not let up on the need" for drink spiking to be made a criminal offence.

Spiking is illegal under legislation such as the Offences Against the Person Act and the Sexual Offences Act.

Last November the Home Office said it "is working across the Criminal Justice System to identify whether there is a gap in the law that a new, specific offence could fill and we will inform Parliament of the outcome of this work in due course."
