Two Oxfordshire towns have been included on the list of worst places to live across the country by a satirical national website.

iLiveHere, which allows the public post their often hilarious views on the places they live, has published its annual nominations for England's worst towns and cities for 2023.

Abingdon and Henley have both been included on the shortlist.

Currently, Henley currently has the most votes at 5.99 per cent, and Abingdon has 0.19 per cent.

Oxford currently has 0.37 per cent.

One unhappy resident has reviewed Abingdon on the website: "Abingdon, oh Abingdon. One of the oldest inhabited towns in England is now one of the newest blights on civilised society.

"A Brexit-voting hinterland of Greek barbers who will willingly set your ear hair on fire for a tenner, punctuated by coffee shops that sell warm ***** and a historic centre that is a minefield […]"

While a disillusioned Henley resident has posted: "10 years ago when we first moved to the town Henley was a quiet and beautful serene place with barely any crime and barely any *****.

"Now with the opening of various **** franchises there is an influx of the peasents and it must be stopped.

"The river is a beautiful thing until the ***** come along and tip anything that floats into it. Walking along the river i have seen trolleys and benches floating down through the current."

Joking apart, when the rankings of the worst places to live 2022 put Didcot 11th, town mayor Mocky Khan leapt to its defence.

“I don’t think it reflects Didcot, a town which has a new shopping centre and great community spirit – people might be going off past perceptions," he said.

iLiveHere explains: "It’s that time of year again, but this year we are doing it a little different. We are extending the voting into the new year to let all you work-based slackers vote.

"Time to choose which provincial dirt hole in England is going to take the title of the worst place to live in the whole country."

However, for the first time the website is also running a best places to live poll.

"We’re doing it because Google thinks our other poll is a bit of a Debbie Downer and around iLiveHere towers, we like to please the Internet godhead," they said.

On the nicest places to live Oxfordshire does well with, confusingly, Abingdon and Oxford, plus Wallingford, Wantage and Woodstock all in the running.

Voting by the public will close on January 31.
