A leading public health professor who regularly appeared on the media during Covid has been recognised in the King's New Year's Honours List.

Professor Sian Griffiths OBE has been awarded a CBE for voluntary and charitable services, particularly during Covid-19.

Prof Griffiths, who lives in Kidlington, is an expert on global public health and was active during Covid on local and national media as well as volunteering in local practice and the community.

She is deputy chair of GambleAware and was chair of the Global Health Committee, Public Health England. 

She co-chaired the 2003 SARS Inquiry for the Hong Kong Government and is Emeritus Professor at Chinese University of Hong Kong.

She is also Visiting Professor at Imperial College London and Non-Executive Director of Public Health Wales.

Her LinkedIn profile also describes her as "Active Grandmother of 10 living in Oxfordshire."

Prof Griffiths trained in medicine at Cambridge University and at King’s in London and is a former Director of Public Health for Oxfordshire Health Authority.
