A BARBER shop in Cowley could be turned into a home despite opposition by residents.

An application has been submitted to Oxford City Council, the planning authority, to turn Hair By Mark Dancer in Wilkins Road into a residential flat.

A planning statement submitted as part of the application said: “This area has been subject to a high volume of planning applications for housing developments which can be seen to have enjoyed a high rate of planning success in the form of planning approval.

“Based on this, it can be noted that this area has a strong precedent for sensible housing developments.”

John Davis, who lives on Keydale Road, said: “This end of Wilkins Road has always been used for businesses. It would be bizarre for a house to be situated between two other shops and a unnecessary loss of business space in the local area.

“The barber shop currently in the salon has been an asset to the area for years and it would be terrible to lose it.”
