Jenny Wood, five, was one of many who enjoyed a Christmas craft fair organised by Woodstock peace group in the town’s Methodist church hall in 1982.

Santa made an appearance to delight Jenny and other children and give them an early taste of the festivities to come.

Barbara Knowland, the group’s coordinator, said the idea of the fair was not only to highlight Christmas but to interest people in the cause of peace.

She said: “It’s to show them that we are normal and not Communists or anything like that.

“There is a public image that we are disruptive and against the establishment.”

Woodstock Methodist Church hall can be hired by community groups.
