NEW electric vehicle charging points could be installed near Oxford City Football Club.

RAW Charging, a supplier of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, wants to create 24 new electric vehicle parking spaces near the club in Marsh Lane, Marston, and has submitted an application to Oxford City Council, the planning authority.

A planning statement submitted as part of the application said: “It will encourage the use of the sports facilities to those visitors who have already made the transition to electric vehicles.

“This will benefit of the sports facilities as it will attract those users as some may be deterred if such facilities are not provided.

“It will encourage new trips by owners of electric vehicles.

“The applicant has identified a demand here for the facility, driven by the rise in demand for electric vehicles and, consequently, the demand for the provision of such essential supporting infrastructure.

“The proposal is therefore aligned with and supports those national and local planning policies that seek to protect and promote the use of outdoor sports facilities.”

The council is expected to make a decision by January 24.
