OXFORD’S oldest garage has been given a new lease of life with a five-figure makeover after being acquired by a new company.

Spanner Works, believed to be the oldest garage in the city, has been acquired by First Stop, a national vehicle specialist company.

The Ferry Hinksey Road garage, originally founded in 1880, received a £10,000 makeover from First Stop to give it a ‘new lease of life’.

Owner Zack Iqbal, who is celebrating his own five-year anniversary as garage owner, made the switch to First Stop after hearing about the network’s expertise in electric vehicle and hybrid vehicle maintenance, not to mention round-the-clock business support.

He said: “We have had five successful years here but we want to keep evolving, as the automotive industry never stands still. We believe that First Stop will allow us to do this and are open to new ideas and ways of working.”

Mr Iqbal said that his five-strong team of technicians were already well trained on EV and hybrid vehicle maintenance but said that First Stop’s expertise would allow his business to learn even more, through industry-leading staff training and access to some of the most advanced EV-ready tyre portfolios, including the Bridgestone premium range.
