A DRIVER crashed into a ditch at an accident blackspot days after a woman expressed her concerns that someone would be hurt on the road.

Clare Watts dubbed the A4130 road between Didcot and Wallingford the road a ‘ticking time bomb’ and expressed her concerns to the Oxford Mail this week about the ‘speeds, overgrown shrubbery and lack of signage’.

Mrs Watts, who frequently rides her horse along the road, said Oxfordshire County Council, the highways authority, need to address the issues before ‘someone is hurt or injured’.

However, on Monday evening (November 28), the driver of a silver Honda Civic crashed into a ditch off the road.

Oxford Mail:

The driver, who was safe and uninjured after the crash, agreed that the speed limit of the road was too fast and they were under pressure to keep up with other drivers.

They added that more lights were also needed on the road.

A spokesman for Oxfordshire County Council said: “The authority will assess the road to establish is there are any specific issues that have resulted in the incidents that have occurred on this stretch of the A4130.

“The authority has committed to the Vision Zero programme and, as such, this investigation will consider all aspects of the incidents and why they may have occurred, such as road alignment/condition, weather conditions, driver behaviour and any other contributing factors.

“Any works identified will be considered for inclusion in the appropriate programme dependent upon the level of risk and available resources to complete improvements.”
