Officers have arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of murder. He remains in police custody.

Det Supt Craig Kirby said: “The victim's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. Our thoughts are with them at this most difficult time.

“We are in the very early stages of this investigation, which appears to be a targeted attack."

Earlier this morning, a forensics officer could be seen combing a grassy area cordoned off by blue-and-white police tape.

It comes a fortnight after a man was allegedly stabbed in the leg in the same park.

Police are not currently treating the alleged murder as linked to the stabbing earlier this month. A spokesman said officers were 'keeping an open mind'.
