Hundreds are expected at this year’s Christmas lights switch-on in Witney's Market Square.

Last year, people flocked into the town centre for the festive extravaganza and organisers are expecting a similar turnout this time.

There will be food and drink stalls, a funfair, live music and entertainment and a special appearance by Father Christmas himself.

The event kicks off at 4.25pm with a performance by Wood Green Swing Band, followed by Madeley Brook school choir at 4.55pm.

Santa's grotto should be open by about 5pm with The Shake Shop providing the sweets.

At 5.25pm there will be a musical set by West Oxfordshire Academy Of Performing Arts (WOAPA).

Mayor of Witney Cllr Liz Duncan will switch on the lights at 6pm, assisted by the joint presidents of Interact, the junior Rotary Club at Wood Green School.

On stage will be Robert Courts, MP for Witney and West Oxfordshire, and Rod Walker, Deputy Lord Lieutenant for Oxfordshire.

The event is jointly organised by the Witney Rotary Club, Witney Lions and Witney Round Table and supported by the Witney Town Council.

Witney Rotary posted on Facebook: "Santa is looking forward to welcoming you all."

Witney Christmas Lights Switch-on Event 2022 is on Friday December 2 from 4.25pm to 7pm.
