Shoppers were out in force this weekend to get their hands on Black Friday deals, as the run-up to Christmas gets underway.

Oxford’s main shopping streets, including Cornmarket, High Street and Queen Street, were packed with people hunting out a bargain on one of the biggest shopping weekends of the year.

Black Friday, which fell on November 25 this year, began in the US as an event where brands would mark the start of the Christmas shopping season after Thanksgiving.

In recent years, the shopping event has been popular on this side of the pond, with people eager to get their hands on technology, gaming, clothing and furniture deals.

It has been estimated that Brits will spend £3.95 billion on Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals this year.
