Work has been completed to improve safety on a roundabout in Oxford, which is often considered one of the most dangerous in the UK.

Roadworks carried out this week to improve the junction were part of Oxfordshire County Council’s Vision Zero strategy – an ambitious project to eliminate all road deaths and serious injuries by 2050.

The strategy was prompted by the death of Dr Ling Felce on the roundabout in March, after she was struck by unlicenced HGV driver Robert Whiting.

The roadworks took place throughout the night between Monday (November 21) and Friday (November 25).

The changes The Plain included:

• amendments to road markings and traffic signs

• installation of road studs, bollards and cycle stands

• installing light cycle lane segregation units

• vegetation clearance

The upgrades are now in place on the roundabout. Check out pictures of The Plain in the gallery above.
