Drivers are being urged to plan ahead due to flooding across Oxfordshire.

Oxon Travel, an account run by Oxfordshire County Council, tweeted: "We are getting reports of flooding and standing water across the county following an heavy downpour earlier. Please drive to the condtions of the road and allow extra time for journeys this afternoon."

There is a flood alert for River Cherwell from Lower Heyford down to and including Oxford.

The Government's new check for flooding service says 'flooding is possible - be prepared'.

Property flooding is not currently expected but river levels have been rising on the River Cherwell as a result of persistent rainfall over the last week.

Flooding of roads and farmland is expected this evening especially in the areas around Thrupp.

Further rainfall is expected into the early evening today, followed by a drier night, but it is expected that river levels will continue slowly rising tonight.

The situation is being closely monitored.
