A POPULAR fish and chip shop in Abingdon has closed.

Smarts Fish and Chips in Peachcroft Road allegedly closed this year as a result of the cost-of-living crisis.

Though the business has not made an official statement itself, residents have claimed the store had to close ‘due to high rental rates and increased overheads’ with prices allegedly increasing ‘substantially’ in the last year.

The business had been trading in the town for more than 30 years. The closure has come as a shock to residents who enjoy the shop.

One commented: “They did the best fish and chips in Abingdon -  I will miss them.”

Another added: “That's awful news, so sorry to hear this.”
