Oxford City Council staff to get £500 one-off payment for bills

The staff will be given the payment this month in an effort by the council continue “doing what it can to help and to support wellbeing”.

An Oxford City Council said: “[The council] recognises that these are difficult times for many of our staff and is committed to doing what it can to help and to support wellbeing.

“In October the Council approved a one-off payment of £500 to City Council employees in recognition of the impact of the current cost of living crisis.

“In addition the Council has applied the increase in the Oxford Living Wage to £11.35.”

The spokesperson added the council is looking at other ways to support staff during winter, including flexible working, staff offers and discounts, and sources of financial support and advice. 

“A number of staff have opted not to take their £500 payment which we will donate to support local food banks and larders,” they said.
