AN 18-year-old man was stabbed in an assault in Oxford last night (November 15).

Officers have reassured residents it is not related to the Jericho 'murder' investigation.

The incident happened at around 11pm, the victim was in an alleyway in Wood Farm Road Park when he was approached by a group of up to four males.

He was hit several times by the group and sustained a stab wound to a leg and contacted South Central Ambulance Service.

Officers were called by the ambulance service and located the victim with a stab wound to his right calf. The victim was also struck in the face, causing a broken tooth.

He was taken to hospital, where he remains at this time, although his injuries are not life threatening or life changing.

The offenders are described as white and aged between 16 and 18.

They were all shorter than the victim, who is 5ft 9ins tall.

Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Peter Warne, of Oxford CID, said: “At this stage, we have not made any arrests, but we are confident that this incident is not linked to an ongoing murder investigation in Jericho.

“It is understandable that this incident will cause concern in the local community, but we are stepping up patrols in the area, and you are likely to see an increased police presence in the area while the investigation is ongoing.

“If you have any concerns or information, please do not hesitate to speak to one of our officers.

“We are determined to tackle knife crime in our communities, and are investigating this incident as a top priority.”
