'Murder'

Police were called to Walton Street, Jericho, at 12.50am on Sunday morning to reports of a disorder.

They found a man in his 20s seriously injured near the Oxford University Press building. He died at the scene.

Pictures from the early hours of Sunday morning showed critical care doctors at the scene together with paramedic crews from South Central Ambulance Service.

One woman who lives on Walton Street reported hearing a group of young men at around the time the alleged murder took place, although noted it was not unusual to hear shouting.

Probe

There has been a heavy police presence in Walton Street all through Sunday and into this morning.

Four blue and white forensics tents have been put up opposite the Oxford University Press building.

Walton Street was originally shut from the junction with Beaumont Street to Cardigan Street, although the cordon later moved down to Great Clarendon Street.

Arrests

Detectives have arrested 10 people in total. Their sexes and ages have yet to been released.

DI Nicola Underhill of Thames Valley Police’s major crimes unit said in a witness appeal yesterday: “There is a large scene watch in place in the local area and members of the public will see an increased police presence whilst we carry out our enquiries.

"Anyone with information or concerns can speak to one of our uniformed officers.

“We are also appealing to anyone who may have witnessed what happened, or who may have information about it, to please come forward.”
