A baker at a popular family-run cafe has won a top award for creating one of the tastiest buns in the country.

Nicola Cooper of Blake's Kitchen in Clanfield was a winner at this year’s Tiptree World Bread Awards with her Marmalade and Dark Chocolate Bun.

Blake’s was founded by Nicola’s grandparents in 1963, passed on to her mother and is now run by Nicola and her sister, Natalie.

The bakery has previously achieved success in the awards with their Malt Crunch Sourdough and Cinnamon Buns.

Nicola’s Tiptree Showstopper winner was one of just under 500 loaves submitted to the awards from around the country.

Oxford Mail:

On the morning of judging day, which took place at Cathedral Hall in Westminster, the hundreds of loaves were delivered by courier, taxi and also in person to ensure maximum freshness.

And last week stars of the bread-baking world gathered together, for the first time in three years, at St John’s Church in London's Hyde Park for the awards ceremony.

“Seeing the high quality of the loaves submitted into this year’s awards, it is hugely satisfying to know the skill and passion for baking good bread here in the UK is not only in good hands, but has to bode well for the successful future of our craft,” said Stephen Hallam, chair of the 70 industry-leading judges.

Tiptree World Bread Awards with Brook Food were launched in January 2013 and are open to all bakers amateur and professional, young and old.
