An Oxford fish and chip shop is in the running to be named the best new chippy in the country.

Harrison's Fish & Chip Co in Botley is one of 10 finalists in the Best Newcomer category in the national Fish and Chip Awards 2023.

The finalists, who come from all over the UK, are shops who launched no earlier than January 2021.

The awards were judged by a panel of industry specialists.

Harrison's on Elms Parade, which received another five-star food hygiene rating in September, is up against shops from Yorkshire to Devon.

Owner Ryan Harrison said: "Everyone at Harrison’s Fish & Chip Co is excited to see how far we get - we definitely think we’re in with a good shot at winning!

"When we opened in July 2021, we set out to be a top quality, family run, fish and chip shop that the local community can come to and enjoy good, old, traditional fish and chips.

"We pride ourselves on all the sustainably sourced ingredients and fully recycled packaging we use.

"I believe Harrison’s is the best fish and chip shop, but it’s not just use that says it, many times we’ve been told ‘it’s the best fish and chips I’ve tasted’, you should come try for yourself!"

Andrew Crook, president at the NFFF, said: “We’re delighted with the uptake of applications for Best Newcomer.

"As we all know, it’s been a difficult period for the fish and chip industry (and world!), so it’s great to see such strong businesses come to light and sit amongst the best in the country!

"We’re looking forward to seeing how these businesses continue to grow and crowning the 2023 winner at the awards next year.”

The awards will be presented on February 28, 2023 at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London.
