Police have arrested a man after a woman was sexually assaulted in an alleyway.

The incident happened on August 2 at around 11am.

It was reported that at around 11am the victim, a woman in her forties, was walking in the alleyway between Abbey Close and Stert Street in Abingdon next to Pizza Express when she was approached by a man who made sexual comments towards her.

The offender then grabbed the victim by the shoulder and arm and made further sexual references towards her.

The offender then let go of the victim and walked away.

Police arrested a 53-year-old man, of no fixed abode, yesterday (October 24) on suspicion of sexual assault on a female.

He has since been released on conditional police bail until 30 November.

Investigating officer Detective Constable David Hughes, based at Abingdon police station, said: “We have made an arrest in connection with this investigation, but I would like to appeal to anybody who was in the area the alley between Abbey Close and Stert Street, who believe that they witnessed this incident to please get in touch with Thames Valley Police.
