AN Oxfordshire MP has responded to Liz Truss resigning after only six weeks, saying the ‘Conservative Party is undemocratic unless they call a General Election’.

Lib Dem Layla Moran MP, who represents Oxford West and Abingdon, has said Mrs Truss has ‘trashed the economy’ following her resignation earlier today.

Ms Moran said: “Boris Johnson failed our country and Liz Truss trashed our economy. The Conservatives have proven time and time again they are not fit to lead our great country for a minute longer, let alone a week.

“My constituents in Oxford West and Abingdon deserve better. The British people deserve better.

“This is a Conservative Party on its last legs. We do not need another Conservative Prime Minister lurching from crisis to crisis. If they had any self-awareness or honour they would go to a general election.

“This will be the second Prime Minister in short succession that will have no mandate. If the Conservative Party doesn't go to the country in a general election, they cannot call themselves democrats.”
