Witney MP Robert Courts has been elected to the House of Commons Defence Select Committee.

The committee is appointed by the House of Commons to examine the expenditure, administration, and policy of the Ministry of Defence and its associated public bodies, including the British Armed Forces.

It is chaired by former soldier Tobias Ellwood who has had the Tory whip restored after it was withdrawn for failing to vote for Boris Johnson’s government in a confidence vote in the summer.

Mr Courts tweeted: "I’m honoured & delighted to be elected to the House of Commons  Defence Select Committee by colleagues. At this critical time for the UK’s defence & security, I am looking forward to scrutinising the Government’s Defence HQ and working to improve the UK’s defence."
