Men under investigation for the alleged one-punch murder of Conrad Welch in Oxford city centre have been re-bailed until next January.

Detectives probing the death of 63-year-old Mr Welch arrested four people last year.

Thames Valley Police said that the four men, aged 18, 20 and 21 upon their arrest last year and all said to be from west or north Oxfordshire, have had their bail renewed until January 7. The suspects are expected to return to the police station to answer bail on or by that date.

Last year, police said that Mr Welch had got into a ‘disagreement’ with two men on the S3 bus after he got on at a Woodstock Road stop at around 10.30pm on June 11.

The argument allegedly continued after Mr Welch and the two men disembarked the bus in Magdalen Street at 10.45pm. He was said to have been punched to the ground in Ship Street.

He died eight days later at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

Oxford Mail:

In a tribute released last summer, Mr Welch’s family said: “He was a very loving, caring, responsible father, grandad, brother, uncle to many, who would go the extra mile to help others especially family and friends.

“We never got the chance to say goodbye, unspoken words you’ve left behind, undone things we’ll never do, no sharing thoughts you never knew.”
