A man was robbed by a group of around seven men while a friend who tried to intervene was kicked and punched.

A 22-year-old man, was approached by a group of young men who pushed him up against a wall and demanded he handed over his wallet on Cowley Road, between Elements bar and The Bullingdon.

A friend of the victim attempted to intervene and was assaulted.

The offenders are described as a group of around seven men who were wearing black coats and balaclavas.

The victim did not sustain any injuries or require hospital treatment.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the robbery and assault which happened at around 5.30am on Sunday October 9. 

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Michael Lewis, based at St Aldates police station, said: “I would like to appeal to anybody who may have been in this area during this time and witnessed anything, or have any footage, to please get in touch."
