THE victim of a hit-and-run was allegedly moved out of the road by the driver before they drove off.

A woman in her 30s was left seriously injured after being knocked off her bike on Sunday, September 25 by Pulprit Hill between Sparsholt and Childrey near Wantage.

The incident happened at about 11.42am and the woman, who was left unconscious, was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital where she stayed for six hours.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the driver of a Vauxhall Vivaro van failed to remain at the scene.

However, a friend of the cyclist, Paul Hayward, has since revealed the driver allegedly did stop but only to move the cyclist from the middle of the road.

“It is quite unbelievable,” said Mr Hayward. “Unbelievable in the sense that not only did he hit her but then he moved her body away from the middle of the road, left her and drove off.

“It’s beyond scary because she could have been paralysed – she is terrified that she was unconscious because she was so helpless.”

Mr Hayward said it was a couple walking nearby that saw the driver allegedly move the cyclist following the collision.

They claimed they heard the driver ‘shouting’ at the cyclist before ‘dragging her to the side of the road’. They then called an ambulance.

Thames Valley Police have confirmed that no arrests have yet been made in relation to the crash.
