There was a close finish on the opening day as Abingdon Vale 2nd suffered a one-wicket defeat at the hands of visitors Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts 2nd in Division 5.

Graham Coates (58) and James Cook (53) took Vale to 170 all out, while Graham Frankland returned 5-58 for Nondies.

Matt Scrivener's 66 then helped the visitors on their way to 171-9 from 49.1 overs.

Andy Darby hit 74 and Chas Taylor 70 in Great & Little Tew 2nd's 220-8 from 52 overs at Didcot.

Julian Hitchman took 4-71 for the home side, who then limped to 157-7 from 58 overs against some good bowling by Sam Catling (3-44).

Lee Anning took 5-21 and Tim Foster 4-48 for Aston Rowant 2nd as Banbury 3rd regretted their decision to bat first.

They were bundled out for only 92 as only Jonathan Cooke (33) prospered with the bat.

Leigh Lewis's unbeaten 34 took Rowant to a seven-wicket win.

Great Brickhill celebrated a six-wicket win at Bicester & North Oxford 2nd on their Cherwell League debut.

Bicester chose to bat and managed 159 all out, Jamie Hall hitting 59 while Shannon Tubb took 5-46.

Tubb then hit 50 and with Arran Aris (76) saw the visitors to 162-4 in the 30th over.

A good team effort topped off by Crispin Andrews' 43 not out enabled Leighton Buzzard Town 2nd to post 228-8 at home to Brackley.

Under-15 Bob Cartwright took 5-28 for the visitors, but - with the exception of Michael Cartwright (61) - he was let down by his side's batsmen as Brackley were bowled out for 152.
