TO celebrate the start of autumn, we put together a list of the best pumpkin patches in Oxfordshire, where you can go and pick your own.

Picking your own pumpkin has been an autumnal tradition in the US since the 1920s and during the baby boom, to greet neighbourhood children as they went trick or treating, but in recent years it has become popular in the UK too.

Here are our favourite places to go pumpkin picking in our county this October:

Carrimers Farm, Aston Tirrold, Didcot

It’s their first year growing pumpkins and they said they are very excited. Book a timeslot, and when you arrive you can park up and pick your pumpkins, and then pay for them at the farm’s reception. From edible pumpkins to round orange standard pumpkins, as well as big white ghost varieties, there will be plenty to choose from.

Rectory Farm, Stanton St John, Oxford

Meet their friendly farm characters, pick and choose your own pumpkins to take home, jump on a tractor ride, get involved in some pumpkin crafts and garden games, and enjoy a warming harvest lunch in The Tractor Shack cafe. They have several pumpkin varieties for you to pick in October and their pumpkin patch definitely makes for some impressive pictures.

Millets Farm, Frilford, Abingdon

Millets Farm’s pumpkin patches opened yesterday (September 24) on weekends but daily from October 15. Admission to the patch is £1.50 - £2.50 per person, depending on dates and then you pay for what you pick. Pumpkin prices vary depending on size. Children under 2 years old can enter the fields for free.

Hadsham Farm, Horley, Banbury

Collect a sledge and head to the pumpkin patch where you can choose your perfect pumpkin. There are a variety of types and sizes which are priced between £3 and £10 each. Bring your pumpkin back to the barns where you can collect a carving kit to transform your pumpkins.
