POLICE have appealed for witnesses after a driver was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following a two-car crash that closed the A40 near Oxford.
The police investigation into the collision shut the road between the Woodstock Road roundabout and the Eynsham roundabout for several hours yesterday.
Police said a blue Volvo V70 estate heading towards Oxford was involved in a head-on collision with a green Peugeot 206 estate.
The driver and a passenger in the Volvo and the driver of the Peugeot were cut from their vehicles.
The air ambulance was called to the scene, and airlifted the driver of the Peugeot, a woman, to hospital.
The driver of the Volvo and a passenger were also taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital.
PC Dan Henderson said: "This is a busy road and there must have been some drivers who may have witnessed the collision. I urge anyone who may have seen this happen, or the cars being driven prior to the collision to contact me."
