Riders at a prestigious horse trials have been singing God Save the King every day of the four-day event.

Soprano Laura Wright, who recently re-recorded the National Anthem with the lyrics updated, serenaded the crowds at the Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials.

Ms Wright said: “It means the world to me to stand in front of such a passionate crowd and to know that her late Majesty The Queen was so passionate about this place too.

"Not only is it steeped in history but the people here are so passionate about horses, as The Queen was, and to be able to pay tribute in this way is very special indeed."

She added: "When you start singing, you either hear people join in or they give you added confidence to sing the words.

Oxford Mail:

"We are hearing different words for the first time in 70 years and my young daughters won’t know anything other than God Save The King now. It’s such an emotional time for everyone."

Ms Wright first met the Queen when she was 16 and performing at the Royal Albert Hall.

“Echoing the words of so many people, my memories of The Queen are full of humour, kindness and generosity. The Queen just had this way of making you feel comfortable, secure and that you were the only person in the room she was speaking to.

"That is really quite something when you think of the many hundreds of thousands of people she met in her time."

Each day of the trials, which started last Thursday and concluded on Sunday, has had a two-minute silence at the start of proceedings in honour of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with many riders wearing black armbands.
