Jugglers, wire-walkers and dazzling horsemen have descended on Oxford for a visit from Zippos Circus.

The circus, which has set up its big top in South Park, East Oxford, has been impressing Oxford audiences for more than 15 years and is back this year after a break in 2007.

And the family-friendly circus has an all new theme, with many of the attractions having a distinct Spanish flavour.

Chris Barltrop, of Zippos, said: "Zippos Circus has been coming to Oxford almost since it began.

"We weren't able to come last year for various reasons so we are delighted to be able to bring the circus back this year to see all our old friends again and some new ones we hope."

The ring master is Señor Norman Barrettcor, returning with "los periquitos" - cheeky budgies in Spanish guise.

He said: "I have been coming to Oxford with the circus for eight years and normally they are very good, really responsive, and they like the live entertainment."

A host of acts, all with a Spanish feel, include the Flaming Fandangos and 'Tapas' Tom Roberts and his majestic palomino horses.

Continuing the equine theme, six-year-old Senorita Kristina has been showing off the tiny Falabella Spanish ponies.

And the comedy side of traditional circus is catered for, with Pepolino the gentle clown. Mr Barltrop said: "We are sorry to have missed a year, but we are back bigger and better."

Performances will be held at 11am, 3pm and 6pm, and at 3pm and 6pm on Monday, April 14, and Tuesday, April 15.

Tickets cost from £6 to £14 for children and concession, and between £8 and £20 for adults.

They will be on sale at the circus box office on site, or from Oxford Playhouse, Beaumont Street.
