I am glad that there has been more publicity recently about this extremely offensive Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill.
The Government has tried to get it through Parliament and on to the statute books, without really publicising its true aims.
Gordon Brown has only recently done a U-turn to allow his party the right to vote according to their consciences and that 'freedom' is only given to certain sections of the Bill.
Why? You may ask. Answer? Because it is so controversial.
For instance, how many of the public know that embryo stem cell research remains far behind adult stem research in terms of results?
How many people know that most 'saviour sibling' embryos are discarded or destroyed?
How many people know that the embryology authority will be clearly empowered to license the creation of cloned embryos for research?
The answer to all these questions is - very few.
I suffer from a disability which causes me great pain, which even high doses of morphine don't much help, but I can put my hand on my heart and say that I would rather carry on suffering than my disability being used as an excuse to debase human beings, which these embryos are.
Do we really want animal/human hybrids created legally? (Recently, a scientist claimed to have created a cow/human, so apparently it is already legal).
I wonder how many people knew that. Come on, Joe Public, stand up and be counted! Do not allow MPs to debase humanity in your name.
Act now before it is too late. Scientists are doing this for two things - money and status. Don't help them get rich in this way.
