Sir - I found it astounding reading Nigel Clarke's letter (March 21), with his narrow-minded comments towards our beautiful city that we live in.

Even though some of our hotels may appear expensive, we do get a good quality of citizen visiting our city, because of the very nature of the arts and classics that complement our beautiful buildings and architecture and are a result of most of these visitors enjoying the historic and good standards of our hotels. They are the very type of people who will pay for quality.

No, we don't want potential visitors, Mr Clarke, to be discouraged from coming to Oxford.

You see it all has a knock-on effect to keep the local population in work and all the smaller businesses, who also depend on our visitors.
