THAMES Water has apologised for burst pipe in Horspath which a woman described as “disgusting” due to the “waste of water”.

Water has been flooding the junction of Blenheim Road and Butts Road in Horspath since Monday, September 5.

Shian Peden, who takes her son to nursery in the area, was concerned about the water being “wasted” during a hose pipe ban.

A Thames Water spokesperson said: “We are aware of a burst water pipe at the junction of Blenheim Road and Butts Road in Horspath.

“We would like to apologise to local residents for any inconvenience caused. Our engineers have assessed the site and will be undertaking the repair work out of hours, in order to maintain access to the nearby primary school. We hope to complete the work as quickly as possible.

“We know it’s not acceptable to be losing so much precious water and we’re doing something about it.

“We have over 500 people working tirelessly to fix leaks with activity taking place seven days a week and over close to 300 people working round the clock and mainly overnight to detect leaks not yet appearing at ground level.

“We are repairing over 1,100 leaks per week – whether they are visible or hidden below ground.

“We prioritise repair work to ensure we focus on the bigger leaks first and importantly those affecting service to customers.”
