THE person hit by a train between Banbury and Oxford yesterday was an elderly woman using a crossing across the track.

British Transport Police were called to Tackley station, at about 3.15pm after the woman was hit by the 7.33 CrossCountry service travelling from Dundee to Bournemouth.

British Transport Police issued a statement which said: "The driver of the 0733 from Dundee to Bournemouth reported striking an elderly woman on the foot crossing at the south end of Tackley station.

The death is being treated as non-suspicious."

A BTP spokesman added that the woman was from the local area but her identity has not yet been released.

The incident caused disruption for passengers, with normal rail services restored by 5pm.
