Trains between Banbury and Oxford were delayed this afternoon following a death on the line near Tackley.

Adrian Booth, a spokesman for First Great Western, said the person died after being hit by a CrossCountry train shortly after 3pm.

FGW's 3.02pm service between Banbury and Oxford terminated at Heyford and passengers were taken by taxi to Oxford.

The 4.23pm service from Oxford to Banbury was cancelled and Mr Booth said: "We hope normal services will be resumed as soon as possible."

Network Rail spokesman Becky Warren said: "The line is currently still closed.

"It appears that someone was hit by a train and British Transport Police are investigating."

No-one from British Transport Police was available for comment.
