Burglars broke into a house after the owner failed to lock their front door securely.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a burglary in Edinburgh Way, Banbury, sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning.

They got inside through the front door and stole a 32in black Sony Bravia television.

The victim was asleep upstairs whilst the burglary took place.

Police said a door handle had been pushed up from the inside to lock the door but it had not been double-locked.

Dc Lee Newman, from Banbury police station, said: "It is possible that the offender put an object through the letterbox and pulled the door handle from the inside. I would urge people to remember to lock their doors properly to lessen the risk of a burglary."
