The Queen’s first visit to Oxford was as Elizabeth Windsor in 1948 when she met staff, students and a tortoise at Oriel College.

But she returned many times over the following decades and on each occasion brought joy to the communities she visited.

One of her visits took place in November, 1997, 25 years ago, when she visited boys' school Radley College, near Abingdon and Berinsfield, near Wallingford.

The Queen and Prince Philip also attended a service in the chapel and joined the Warden, masters and boys for lunch.

In the afternoon she visited Berinsfield, and was welcomed by the chairman of South Oxfordshire District Council, Kenneth Hall.
