Hundreds of student scientists showcased their work in an American-style science fair and competition at an Oxford school.
Pupils from the Cherwell School, in Marston Ferry Road, spent weeks producing projects on everything from the science of cooking, eco-tourism and what colour seeds chickens prefer.
Kat Lygate, science enrichment coordinator at the school, said: "The calibre of the contestants work was outstanding and judges had real difficulty in deciding the winners.
"In the exam-driven education of modern day education, it was fantastic to see such enthusiasm, dedication and originality from the participants and there was a real buzz in the hall."
Prizes for creativity and scientific rigour were presented by Prof Peter Atkins, of Oxford University, who also gave a public lecture at the school on the nature of energy.
It is hoped to make the event, which was part of the school's science and engineering week, an annual event.
