Pupils past and present are gearing up for a grand reunion at Kidlington's secondary school tomorrow.

Gosford Hill School is throwing open its doors between 2pm and 6pm in celebration of its 75th anniversary.

Two new school buildings are set to be unveiled and former pupils have been encouraged to bring along school memorabilia.

At 3.30pm, the oldest ex-pupil and youngest current pupil will be photographed together to mark the occasion, and there will be guided tours and refreshments throughout the afternoon.

Headteacher Dr Stephen Bizley told the Oxford Mail he was excited about the event, and hoped there would be some nostalgic reunions.

He said the new science block would be dedicated in honour of his predecessor David Jones and the new design and technology block in honour of current governor Tony Matthews.

He said: "Both of them played a key role in getting the new buildings for the school, and I think it's nice to tie in the official unveiling with the 75th anniver- sary.

"The students are very impressed with the new buildings. A couple of them said it was like coming back to a new school because the design block is the first building you see coming up the drive."

The Gosford Hill School Association spent more than a year preparing the reunion.

Association spokesman and parent Celia Orr said: "I'm very excited about the prospect of old friends meeting up and seeing how the school has changed."

Dr Bizley, who joined Gosford Hill in September, said: "It's fantastic to come to a school with such a rich history. My job is to build on what's gone before.

"I'm looking forward to the weekend, meeting some of the old students and David, the previous head - and finding out what the school was like all those years ago.

"It's a chance for the community to have a look around the school and for me to show off the school.

"But it would be great if we could put former students in touch with each other as well."

Dr Bizley is also keen to hear from anyone who remembers Sheila Tum- wire, a student at Gosford from 1990 to 1993, who now lives in Uganda.

She recently emailed the head after reading about the reunion and wanted old friends to get in touch.
