A 50-year-old man who claimed £18,236 in housing and council tax benefit he was not entitled to will be sentenced next month.

Kieran Gogarty, of Osborne Road, Blackpool, admitted making a false representation in November, 2003 in order to claim benefits.

He also failed to notify Cherwell District Council of a change in circumstances between November, 2003 and June, 2006.

He was found not guilty on a second charge of making a false representation after the Crown Prosecution Service offered no evidence.

Oxford Crown Court heard Gogarty had failed to declare £15,000 of savings in his wife's name.

He is due to be sentenced on April 9.
