It's a welcome sight - hungry diners queuing outside Donburi Inn at the Covered Market in Oxford.

But it’s a scenario that hasn’t been witnessed at the historic market for quite some time.

The business needed some renovations following the pandemic and following a temporary closure, has just reopened, much to the delight of its loyal customers and other traders in the market.

A member of staff said on Instagram: “We are back! It has been a long long time. We are exciting to see you guys again.”

A customer replied: “OMG - I can’t believe it I’m so happy.”

Diners can takeaway or enjoy Donburi dishes inside, in the ‘garden’ area created by staff.

The market featuring food stalls, clothes shops, and a wide variety of other businesses, is run by landlords the city council.

The council has had a policy in recent years of splitting up large retail units into smaller units to make them more attractive to smaller businesses.

Market managers are delighted to welcome back the Donburi team following its temporary absence.

Donburi Inn opened in the market in January, 2020 after the owners of Jeongs Dosirak (Korean Lunchbox) transferred their lease.

“The portion is massive in my opinion so it suits hungry people ;) Basically, you will feel quite full. Also the location is great. The Covered Market is very central. I’ll come back again.”
