POLICE today renewed an appeal for witnesses to a collision near Burford in which a 60-year-old cyclist was seriously injured. The man was cycling along the B4020 Shilton Road from Burford towards Carterton at 6.20pm on Thursday, February 7.

He stopped to allow two cars to pass before turning right for Barley Lane Bed and Breakfast when he collided with a scooter.

He was taken to hospital and today three weeks later he remains at the John Radcliffe Hospital in a serious condition.

Sgt Jack Hawkins, of Bicester Roads Policing Department, said: "We carried out a road check yesterday evening and spoke to a number of people about the incident but nobody could provide further information about it.

"I would like to thank everyone that stopped for their patience, co-operation and information.

"I would still like to speak to the drivers of two cars who passed the cyclist as they may have information that could assist our inquiries.

"I understand that both drivers joined Burford High Street from Sheep Street on the evening of the incident then travelled via the A40 and on to the B420 Shilton Road towards Carterton.

"They would have passed a cyclist in a yellow hi-visibility vest on a green pedal cycle that stopped at the side of the road to allow them pass. The cyclist had carrier bags on his rear cycle rack.

"They may recall being followed by a scooter from Burford, along the B4020. I would like to stress that I do not believe they are involved or responsible for this collision but I would like to identify them so they can be eliminated from our inquiries."

Anyone with information should contact police on 08458 505505 or speak anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
