KAZIMIERZ Michalski is a true survivor.
After enduring a sentence of hard labour in notorious Russian penal camps and trekking 600 miles to be reunited with his family during the Second World War, the former judge has celebrated his 100th birthday.
Polish-born Mr Michalski, who lives in Summertown, Oxford, was joined by friends and family, including his wife Janina, 96, as he celebrated his landmark at St Aloysius Church, Woodstock Road, today.
He and his wife came to Britain in 1946, settling in Oxford where he became an assistant at the Oxford University Law Library.
Mr Michalski said: "The secret of a long life is being moderate in what you do.
"I smoked during the war, then I stopped for ten years, then I came back to smoking pipes, but over ten years I broke the habit. I don't drink alcohol a lot."
